iOS 7 may have been release for iPhones and iPads everywhere yesterday, but there’s one more big release to get excited about this week – iCreate 125.
Hitting the shelves so close to the big iOS update gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate its radical redesign and the incredible App Store that compliments it by highlighting our favourite iOS 7 apps.
We’ve picked out 37 apps in total that we think are perfect for your newly upgraded iOS 7 device in terms of design and functionality. A minimal and functional UI, use of layers and blur effects and an excellent icon were all part of our criteria. Here’s five our favourites to keep you going until you grab an issue. 1. VSCO Cam
Free | iPhone/iPod touch | App Store
Created and recently relaunched by the good people at Visual Supply Co (who also contributed to this month’s #Trending article on mobile photography), VSCO Cam is undoubtedly the simplest and cleanest filter app on the iPhone. The apps interface may be minimal but don’t let that fool you, there’s some great, pro level controls to enhance your images and the ace VSCO grid.

Free (with monthly subscription) | iPhone/iPad/iPod touch | App Store
Rdio’s design was way ahead of the curve when it came to the new style that iOS 7 bought with it. It was already making use of light fonts, blurred layers and minimal controls long before Jony Ive took the helm as head of Apple’s Human Interface teams. The Spotify competitor weighs in at roughly the same cost as the music-streaming behemoth and is well worth checking out.
Ahem, while we’ve got your attention, we should also point out that there’s lots of other great stuff in issue 125, including a guide on giving your Mac an iOS 7 style makeover (Remember our iOS 7 Mac icon project? Designed and developed by iOS legend Loren Brichter, Letterpress’ design and functionality is so cool that even Apple used it in some of its recent marketing for the iPhone and iPad. Like Rdio, the design was ahead of its time and has seen many imitations.

Picked by Apple as a featured app back in August, Rise will sit beautifully with your new iPhone homescreen thanks to its simple design and gradient backdrop. What’s more, its gesture-based interface will sit perfectly alongside the new ones you’ll have to learn to summon Control Center.

It might form the basis of iOS 7’s native Weather app, but Yahoo!’s offering does so much more, all with the same intuitive interface that won’t look at all out of place in iOS 7. If you’re after some slightly more detailed information than what’s offered by Apple’s stock app, this is the way to go.
